Things to Do

These are four of our favorite things to do during the spring.

Golf at Boulder Canyon Country Club: Tee times are plentiful and the greens are glorious. Come and hit a few shots with this acclaimed club. Cart rentals are $10.

Fish at Spearfish Creek: You can fish just about anywhere near the Black Hills. It is a fishing paradise. But we have to recommend Spearfish Creek in the famous Spearfish Canyon. You can obtain a fishing license to account for the entire family. If you love angling at all, you will fall in love with these deep and fast waters in the canyon. The creek averages 29 feet deep. The top catch here is wild brown trout. Trout have claimed the region, and they flurry through the fast-moving waters throughout the year.

Roller Coaster Ride at Rush Mountain Adventure Park: You can find thrilling opportunities at every turn here at this acclaimed local park. The Rushmore Mountain Coaster carries you- and quickly- along 3,400 feet from start to finish. You can achieve speeds up to 30 miles per hour, with a pedal to help you control exactly how fast you want to go. There’s also a zipline, a deep cave tour, and the tykes challenge obstacle course for younger visitors.

Hunting: Visitors come far and wide to take a chance at some of the local game. The most common hunt is prairie whitetail deer, but you can also find doves, coyotes, wild turkeys, sharptail grouse, and gray partridges, among others, hidden in the dense foliage of the Black Hills. While not all of these creatures are widely found during the spring (peak hunting season is in the fall) you can still see some good opportunities.

The Black Hills are wonderful, with a nice mix of organized local park activities and things to do in nature.

Sights to See

You don’t have to go far from our Black Hills lodges to see the below attractions. These are just some of the most exciting places to see near and in Black Hills.

Sturgis: Sturgis is a fascinating look at motorcycle culture. The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is the best of its kind in the world, but the town is fascinating all year-round. Check out the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame. It is the area’s most popular spring destination.

Deadwood: Deadwood is its own museum. Showcasing old buildings and a riveting local story, Deadwood is a captivating look at another era of American history- one drenched in shootouts, poker games, and gold.

Big Thunder Gold Mine: The gold mine is a museum in a 1895 replica gold mine. You can see artifacts, like excavation tools and chests, right from the mine’s long history. Learn about the trials and tribulations of the South Dakota gold seekers.

Mount Rushmore: Few attractions are as popular in the country as Mount Rushmore. It’s a dizzying spectacle and one that hardly needs an introduction. You can enjoy a meal at Carver’s Café with its massive window offering a view of the monument.
