The Best Restaurants in Deadwood, South Dakota

A long drive into Deadwood will leave anyone hungry. When you bring your suitcase and belongings into our Black Hills rentals, the next thing on your mind will be “I’m starving.” Road trips, or flying into the area, leaves most guests looking for the best restaurants in town.

There’s something for everyone: burgers, brews and even a social club.

If you’re new to the area, these local hotspots are where we recommend our guests visit for a fun, affordable time.

Our Pick of the Best Deadwood Restaurants 

Deadwood has great steaks, burgers, brews and a variety of other cuisines to match everyone’s taste. Some of the best restaurants in town are:

Deadwood Grille

Deadwood Grille is located on 100 Pine Crest Lane and offers American cuisine and also doubles as a sports bar. If you’re ready to sit down for ribeye or risotto and watch the game, this is your spot.

The Grille is open from 4:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

A relaxed atmosphere with dim lighting and booths makes this a great place for a single in town or a couple. You’ll find that the dining area is spacious, and the food is delicious. The Lodge Buffalo Burger is a favorite among locals, or choose an apple spinach salad or grand slam nachos.

There is a gluten-free menu available.

Happy Hour specials are also available. The menu is vast, and there are options if you want to share it with someone else.

Deadwood Legends Steakhouse at the Franklin Hotel

Deadwood Legends is open for breakfast and brunch and then closes down until dinner every night. Located on 709 Main Street, the restaurant opens at 8 a.m daily except on the weekend when they open an hour earlier. Breakfast and brunch are offered until 11 a.m. daily. 

Dinner is served daily from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. except for Friday and Saturday when they close an hour later.

Inside of the Deadwood Legends Steakhouse at the Franklin Hotel

The restaurant was established in 2015, but the Franklin Hotel has served guests since 1903, including Teddy Roosevelt and John Wayne. Deadwood’s hospitality is legendary, and the beautiful interior is enough to give this steakhouse a try.

Try the dynamite shrimp as an appetizer, or dig into one of the chicken, seafood or steak and chops dishes available.

This is a walk-in restaurant, so there’s no reason to call ahead of time.

Lewie’s Burgers & Brews

If you go to one of the restaurants on Main Street and the line is too long, just turn around and head to Lewie’s. They’re located at 711 South Main Street in Lead, and are open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Lewie’s does not take reservations, but takeout options are available.

A great, relaxed atmosphere with burgers and brew, you’ll find that staff is very fast, efficient and friendly. 

Kick back and order a beer, or eat enjoy many call the best burgers in the state. If you’re really hungry, give the 1/2-pound burger a try.

You’ll find good, hardy food, including burgers, fries, sodas, brews and more. Lewie’s does have all of the games on large-screen televisions, so it’s a great location if you want to watch your favorite team while you eat.

During the warmer months, there’s outside seating on the deck, which we highly recommend.

Deadwood Social Club

The Deadwood Social Club is open each day from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., except Friday and Saturday when closing time is an hour later at 10 p.m. Located on 657 Main Street, you’ll find that the Social Club is always filled with patrons ready to try the over 200 different bottles of wine offered.

If you’re hungry, this Northern Italian Steakhouse has delectable Tuscan pasta dishes and the best Angus steaks in town.

Established in 1994, the restaurant has continued to expand, with a veranda and a fire pit that is perfect for the cool fall and winter nights. There’s a Martini Bar, and kids are welcome, too. 

Outdoor dining is available during the summer (we highly recommend it).
