Rolling mountains and bold views, the Black Hills are nothing short of mesmerizing.
New Year’s in the Black Hills can be an especially exciting time to see all the area has to offer. From ball drops to fireworks, there are many thrilling things to do and see as you ring in the New Year in the Black Hills.
A Party in Deadwood
One option to celebrate New Year’s Black Hills style is with the traditional ball drop. What better place than a historic and mountainous mining metro?
The Historic Franklin Hotel on Main Street in Deadwood is the place to be for the drop. The event lasts all day long and is a big block party down Main Street where the street is shut down in front of the hotel. There’s a special New Year’s Eve buffet as well as drinks and music to celebrate all the way until midnight.
If you are looking for the closest, and possibly biggest, New Year’s Eve get-together near the Black Hills, this is it.
Alternatively, you can take a bit of a road trip to Rapid City. Check out a more upscale event at the Hotel Alex Johnson. It’s a night filled with a Ballroom party, live DJ entertainment, a cash bar, and of course the midnight ball drop with a champagne toast. The celebration to ring in the New Year here starts at 9 p.m. and lasts well into the first of the year. Reservations are highly recommended.
The Downtown Countdown in Rapid City is one of the premier events in that area. The celebration lasts from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Main Street Square. Enjoy a night of ice skating, dancing, light shows, interactive games and more. As you near the midnight hour, this event blasts off fireworks over the Black Hills to provide a beautiful light show for all.
If you’re looking for something with a bigger party atmosphere, head to the Rushmore Plaza Inn in Rapid City for a huge celebration. There are options for a kid-friendly party in the Atrium, or 21 and up options in both the Black Hills Ballroom and the Dakota Ballroom. Here, you’ll find a night of dancing, music, dinner, and an all-around good time to start your New Year off with a bang.
If you’re looking to make a splash in the New Year, you won’t want to miss the Watiki Water Park New Year’s Eve Bash. There’s a dinner buffet as well as family-friendly movie showings, prize giveaways, and a midnight balloon drop.
Make Your Own Party
In addition to these great events and ball drops across the Black Hills, you can also make your own party right in the comfort of your gorgeous vacation rental. Grab some champagne and watch the ball drop on television, or if you’re near a campsite make a bonfire and enjoy the crisp air of Black Hills.
Before making your own fire though, make sure your vacation rental is in an area where they allow fires and check to see if a burn ban is in effect. If you’re all clear here, apply for a campfire permit. You can reach out to us for details about campfires, parties, and more.
You’ll be all set to ring in the New Year cuddled up and roasting some marshmallows.
